Glycerine-Saline for the Preservation of Dysenteric Stools
نویسنده
چکیده
' It has been found that neutral glycerine-salif16 solution as prepared in military hospitals in this district is unsuitable. The preparation of a buffered glycerine-saline solution containing an indicator is described. There has been an increase in the isolation of organisms belonging to the enteric, dysentery and cholera groups from specimens sent in this solution from out-stations. The solution has the advantage of being stable, and the presence of an indicator acts as a check on the suitability of the solution. The undermentioned points relevant to specimens oi faeces from dysentery cases have been discussed : (a) The age of fresh specimens; (b) the best type oi specimen to be sent to the laboratory; (c) the most suitable method for selecting specimens. Details of some improved methods of laboratory technique are given.'

Preservation of rabies virus RNA from brain tissue using glycerine.
The challenge virus standard (CVS) strain and a wild isolate from a Mexican child who died of hematophagous bat (Desmodus rotundus)-transmitted rabies were injected intracerebrally into BALB/c mice. Brains obtained from infected mice were immersed in 80%, 50%, and 40% glycerine/phosphate-buffered saline (PBS). RNA was extracted from brains on days 1, 2, 3, 7, 21, and 60, and reverse transcripta...

much alike that serological experiment shows that by the presence of syphilis-antigen the presence in the serum of a yaws patient of framboesia-antibodies is made evident (by complement, deviation), yet the two diseases are distinct. For, as Charlouis pointed out, many years ago, the fact that a man is suffering from yaws does not protect him against luetic infection, and conversely, as Neisser...
متن کاملEvaluation of faecal preservation and staining methods in the diagnosis of acute amoebiasis and giardiasis.
The use of a faecal preservative and several staining methods, together with formalin ether concentration, were evaluated for the improved diagnosis of intestinal amoebiasis and giardiasis in 1285 patients with diarrhoea or dysentery and from asymptomatic controls. All samples were screened by three wet mount techniques. Thirty eight specimens of diarrhoeal or dysenteric stool were preserved in...

Choleraic and Diarrhoeic type.?The majority of these cases were adults, all seen being males. Bilious vomiting and diarrhoea, often with blood and mucus in the stools, were prominent features in almost all cases. In a few, however, vomiting was absent, but the intensely toxsemic state of the patient and the diarrhoea or dysenteric condition present might have led one to diagnose the case as one...
